Description

This is another favourite of mine in the collection – it may be just a generic PC, but its similar to the machine I had back in the 486 era of PCs. You may have noticed that the case has been covered with wood effect vinyl wrap! The case was so yellow and rusted in places, I decided to wrap it to cover up its blemishes. This PC is now affectionately called “Woody”.

  • Gigabyte GA-486VT Rev 1 Motherboard. 256Kb cache (Settings here.)
  • Intel 486 DX2 66mhz CPU
  • 32MB RAM (8 * 4Mb 72pin SIMM)
  • Generic Winbond/UMC based VLB IDE/Floppy/COM/LPT controller
  • Cirrus Logic CL-GB5428 VLB VGA adapter
  • Gravis UltraSound soundcard
  • 3Com EtherLink III 3c509-TPO (Twisted pair only) LAN adapter
  • Compact Flash to IDE adapter.

I have a couple of CF cards I use to store the operating systems, applications an games. For most of the time, the PC will be running MS-DOS 6.22 and Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

Many games are also installed including Doom (Have you seen the Acorn RISC PC version?) , Wolfenstein 3D, Jill of the Jungle, Jazz Jackrabbit, Commander Keen and many more.
