Super Mario Bros. Celebrates 25th Birthday

On September 13, 1985, a mustachioed plumber embarked on an epic adventure through the Mushroom Kingdom in search of Princess Toadstool, an adventure that would forever change the face of the video game industry.

Super Mario Bros. was released on this day in Japan 25 years ago for the Family Computer, the equivalent of what we in North America would be calling the Nintendo Entertainment System when it was introduced the following month.

To help celebrate, Nintendo has released the following video going through the plumber’s 25-year history as a platforming adventurer and, while it’s a bit revisionist in its history, it is nevertheless a touching tribute, and a fine way to celebrate what may be the most consistently popular franchise in videogame history.
