The greatest games of the 90s

It comes as a bit of a shock to realise that games released in the 1990s can now be considered ‘old skool’.

Think about it. Titles that went on sale at the start of that decade – the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Tetris and Speedball 2 – are now nearly 20 years old. It’s the sort of fact that makes those of us who loved those games when they were current feel witheringly old.

But the 90s was a great time to be a gamer. Consoles began their rise to dominance, with the satisfyingly chunky Mega Drive and SNES followed by the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Home computers were still big news too, with Commodore’s venerable Amiga a particular favourite.

So, in a trip down memory lane, we here at Tech & Gadgets (that’s your friendly editors Nik Taylor and Jane Douglas) have picked out our favourite games from the 90s. It’s a simple list – we’ve gone for one game each from every year of the decade.

The choices are purely personal, these are games we loved at the time and still remember fondly now.
