Recycling PCs – Don’t forget to erase the HDD first!

I was given a Apricot PC today. I powered it on to make sure it was OK, expecting the machine not to boot into an OS. Boy, was I wrong…

Machine booted into Windows 95, and there were personal files all over the place. Even some ‘adult’ material!

Moral of the story is – when you pass on the machine to someone else. Make sure you remove or securely erase the hard disk first. Who knows what the new owner of your machine could find and use from your PC…. Its a good job I’m not a malicious person.

This machine has now been erased using Boot and Nuke. http://www.dban.org/
