This is the ‘Read me’ document from the 2.0.0009 version of the software

Welcome to the ICE Technology CD
--------------------------------

This CD contains the very latest release software (which can also run in
demonstration mode), installation guides, manuals, application notes, plus
full product data sheets for all our product range. All documents are stored
in PDF format, so Adobe Acrobat(R) Reader(TM) is required to view these. A
version of Acrobat(R) is also available on this CD.

************************ System requirements ********************************

Make sure that your PC has the following minimum requirements before you
browse this CD and install the WinLV programmer software:

For the CD:
* IBM Compatible PC
* 8 MB RAM (16MB recommended)
* 12MB Free hard disk space for Acrobat® Reader(TM)
* HTML Browser such as Netscape Navigator or MS Internet Explorer
* Windows 9x/NT4 (SP1 upwards)

For WinLV software:
* IBM Compatible PC
* 8 MB RAM (16MB recommended)
* 12MB Free hard disk space for WinLV software
* Parallel port - Standard SPP or ECP mode selected in PC BIOS
* Standard serial/PS2 mouse
* Windows 9x/NT4 (SP1 upwards)

**************************** CD Installation ********************************
* Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive
* The HTML program should start automatically. If the HTML program does not
  start, double-click WELCOME.HTM in the root directory on the CD.
* Now just browse the CD - it's as simple as that!
* Acrobat(R) Reader(TM) can be installed at any time by clicking on the
  Acrobat(R) logo on the main toolbar

************************* Programmer Installation ***************************

This applies to the following ICE Technology Programmers:
LV48 Series, LV40 Portable & Speedmaster GLV-32

(For MATRIX PROGRAMMING SYSTEM installation, see below)

***** Connecting the programmer *****

* Connect one end of the parallel cable to the programmer and the other into
  one of the parallel ports on the PC. Tighten the holding screws to ensure
  the cable is properly attached to the ECP or SPP printer port
* Connect the power supply provided into the back of the programmer and plug
  into any mains socket. NOTE: The LV48 series programmers do not have a
  power on switch. It will power up (indicated by the red power LED)
  automatically when it receives a signal from the PC and then power down
  when not in use

***** Software installation *****

Software is provided for Windows(TM) 9x, NT4 and DOS platforms. Contained on
the CD is the Setup programme for Windows(TM) 9x/NT4, the DOS installation
programme, Emulator options software, Chiptest software and Selftest
diagnostics, plus command line batch utilities for DOS. The CD also contains
the relevant library files for all programmers

Windows Software installation
* Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive
* The HTML program should start automatically. If the HTML program does not
  start automatically, double-click SETUP.EXE in the INSTALL folder from the
  directory window for  your CD-ROM drive
* Follow the instructions on your screen
* Run WinLV for all programmer operations, including programming memory,
  microcontroller and logic devices, initialising the emulator options and
  the built in ChipTester
* Select Programmer/Diagnostics/Selftest (not available on GLV32) from the
  menu bar to check the functionality of the programmer

DOS Software installation
* Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive.
* Go to the INSTALL directory on the CD-ROM drive and type INSTALL C:\ICETECH
  at the prompt in the DOS window
* Once installed, run the diagnostic utility by typing SELFTEST  in
  the ICETECH sub-directory (single socket programmers only). For the GLV32,
  use DETECT. If you have the Emulator card option installed, this can be
  tested by typing EMULTEST .
* Use EPROM for programming Memory and Microcontroller devices, PAL for logic
  devices, EMUL for the built in Emulator, GLV32 for the Gang programmer and
  CHIPTEST for the ChipTester.

******************* MATRIX Programmer Installation **************************

This applies to the MATRIX PROGRAMMING SYSTEM only

***** Connecting the programmer *****

Connect one end of the parallel cable to the programmer LPT-IN socket (black
port) and the other into one of the parallel ports on the PC. Tighten the
holding screws to ensure the cable is properly attached to the ECP printer
port. Connect the power supply cable into the back of the programmer and plug
into any mains socket. Switch on the programmer using the mains rocker switch
on the back panel of the unit. The large red button on main panel will light
up, and the red fail/reset LEDs will light, indicating RESET/DISABLED state.

***** Software installation *****

Running Setup will install WinLV on Windows(TM) 95, 98 and NT4 systems (Please Note: NT
users will need to logon in Administrator mode)

* Insert the disc into the CD-ROM drive
* The HTML program should start automatically. If the HTML program does not start
  automatically, double-click SETUP.EXE in the INSTALL folder from the
  directory window for  your CD-ROM drive
* Follow the instructions on your screen
* Run WinLV. The software will then attempt to initialise all active sites
  The red LEDs on the programmer will indicate which site is being
  initialised
* The 'WinLV Password Manager' is then displayed. Type in your required "new"
  password (leave the "Old Password" box blank), confirm, then press the
  "change" button. You will then need to exit the Password manager and
  restart WinLV
* Select Administrator as the user, then type in your Administrator password
* From WinLV, select PROGRAMMER/DIAGNOSTICS/SELFTEST from the menu bar to
  check the functionality of the programmer. The time this will take depends
  on the number of programmers/active sites connected. Once SELFTEST has
  passed, the Matrix Programming System is ready for use
* Additional users can be added, with different access rights and privileges,
  using FILE/ADMINISTRATOR FUNCTIONS. A session log file is produced for each
  user.
